Animatic

At first, we recorded the video below for the animatic. However, we realised that we had done it incorrectly so we re-recorded the animatic. We had recorded the image of the shot for how long that shot would be (e.g. if the shot was 00:08, we wouls record for eight seconds) we also recorded the type of shot and the description.

We improved and corrected our animatic by just recording the image of the shot for however long the estimated time for that shot is. Below is the finak version of the animatic.

Cast

Below are some images of our cast. The people in this image will be featured in our movie; it includes the main characters and also the extras.

This is our main character who will be played by Christina Pope.

Mario Tofaris will play the role of our main character's Dad.

The role of the nurse will be played by Maria Ngoma.

The cast we used for our crowd:

Our production team:
.
This is Beatriz Arredondo.
Beatriz contributed to the preliminary task by filming myself and Mary-Grace Vicente. Next, she created the logo using Adobe Fireworks CS5. Thirdly, she took part in creating the storyboard as the wrote in the description boxes of the second version. Also, she helped me in analyzing the Media Questionnaire results and also created some of the graphs. Furthermore, Beatriz and I filmed the whole Film Treatment. Unfortunately, some of these videos were lost and therefore we had to re-film the lost videos. Additionally, Beatriz put the most effort into the credits as she is an ICT student and therefore specializes in that area. Even though it was very challenging, we experimented using Adobe Flash CS5 and were finally able to finish the credits. Also, Beatriz put together the music which will be used in the credits along with the help of some friends. She recorded it using her phone and cropped and edited it. Finally, she has filmed numerous shots of our film opening.
This is me; Roshani Perera.
I have taken part in the preliminary task by acting in it. Secondly, I contributed to the storyboard by writing in the description box. Also, as the first mood board needed to be added to Beatriz and I created an alternative one. Then, I analysed the Media Questionnaire results together with Beatriz Arredondo and created graphs and charts for each question. Furthermore, I added to the Film Treatment by taking part in it and also staying back with Beatriz Arredondo to film it. However, parts of it got lost which meant that we had to re-film it in our Media Studies lesson. In addition, I created the location reports and searched for images for inspiration using Google images. Next, I made both shooting scripts.. Moreover, I contributed to the making of the credits as I helped Beatriz Arredondo in making decisions such as timing and colour etc. Also, I created the second version of the Production schedule and filmed parts of our movie opening.
This is Mary-Grace Vicente.
Firstly, she took part in the preliminary task by acting in it. Then, she drew the photographs for the storyboard and has also written in some of the description boxes. Also, she created the first mood board. Next, she filmed both animatics which was done on her phone. In addition, she filmed parts of the Film Treatment that we had lost as well as taking part in it. Once the whole film treatment was filmed, Mary-Grace edited it on Adobe Premiere Pro CS5. Furthermore, she created the first 'Production schedule' using Prezi as we had gotten the wrong idea of a Production schedule. Finally, she filmed parts of our film opening.

Shooting script

Shooting script
View more presentations from perer050308.

The shooting script above is the first one we created. It includes ourselves as the actors as we were unaware that we could not act in our movies. We therefore had to change the actors in our shooting script.
Furthermore, the layout and structure of  the shooting script was incorrect which meant that we had to transfer all the information in the shooting script above to a Microsoft Word document and follow the example shown below.

Storyboard

These are images of our third and last storyboard which was used to create our final piece:

The images below are images of our initial storyboard. We drew this story board of our movie opening using the summary of our movie opening which we put together prior to the storyboard. The storyboard includes rough drawn images, camera shots, camera movements, dialogue, sound and also the number of each individual shot. The total number of shots that we will be using for our movie opening will be eight.

When filming our animatic, we realised that we had to split the storyboard up further so that we can have single, straight forward shots as oppose to a shot including numerous shots. Therefore, we created a new storyboard with added shots. Below are images of our new and improved storyboards:

When adding up the estimated time of each shot, we noticed that it is only 01 minute and 19 seconds long. This had us worried as the target for this movie opening is two minutes. Therefore, we planned for changes to two shots to be made. This would increase the time to 01:29. These changes are shown below:

Even though the timing still doesn't reach the two minutes, we decided not to make anymore changes because after we filmed shots 1, 2 and 3 we realised that we had estimated unachievable timings. This is because, we had estimated a total time of 16 seconds for the three shot. However, when the filming of these three shots was comple, it added up to 42 seconds.

Mood Board

This is our second mood board; to create this collage, we gathered images that relate to our thriller movie opening and collated them together.
Initially, we planned for weapons to be used in the toilet scene with the main character and the nurse. This is why we included images of knives. However, later on we changed this idea. There are images of ECG monitor screens as we planned for the credits to show through a similar way.

The following document contains the annotations of our Mood Board:

Interviews about thriller movies

Below are some interviews which our group carried out to gain a more detailed and more personal view of the audience.

Interview of Mr.Riley

Interview of Mary-Grace

Interview of Hilary:

Interview of Beatriz:

Interview of Me:

Conclusion:

Question one: All the people interviewed, chose either an eight or nine for how much they liked thriller movies. This highlights that everyone interviewed enjoy watching thriller movies and this is important because it helps them answer the questions asked as oppose to someone who doesn't enjoy watching thriller movies and they may not answer the questions effectively.

Question two: The modal answer for this question was the fact that thriller movies keep the audience on the edge of their seats. Some other factors involved the build up to the ending and the fact that it continually requires the audience to think about what's happening - expecting the unexpected and the suspense built as a result of this.

Question three: To analyse question three, we used the reasons why rather than which movie were their favourite as we believed that this would be most useful. We finalised that most people interviewed like the fear factor, the tension and 'edge of the seat' effect it had on them in contrast with horror movies where all the blood and insight is shown.

Question four: For the last question, we received mixed feedback; some related to the build up of suspense, tension and expecting the unexpected. The sound effects were also said to have a big impact on the audience as it helps to set the mood. Camera shots were said to be significant along with fast editing and lighting. These factors will be considered when planning our movie opening.
